I recently posted a related idea that I got from Dr. Ann Demarais - the crux of which is that people feel best about you when they feel good about themselves when they are around you.

Dr. Paul,
I always remember an anecdote from the book, “Rogers’ Rules for Success” where he states just that. His client left a lunch meeting that she described as the most delightful lunch because Rogers let her dominate the conversation.
People do “feel best about you when they feel good about themselves when they are around you.”
